New Year - New Drywall - New Doors!!!

My last post never made it up before the new year as the server was not working properly for the blog. So this update is a bit old, but things have been moving along nicely. Abbey and I were back east over Christmas and the new year but while we were gone the house was sand blasted and prepped for the new stucco outside. Upon our return we were excited to have things start to arrive. Our vanity was finally delivered to the store yesterday (about a week late) and our side door for the driveway came in on Monday (also late). Unfortunately the side door was not constructed correctly and had to be sent back. They made the bottom sill of the door too big on the inside. It was returned and they have told us that it will be fixed and we should have it back by tomorrow. Also, our windows were supposed to come in tomorrow, but our contractor called last night and told us that they were actually ahead of schedule. They are probably being delivered at the house as I type this, so stand by for pics of the delivery and start of installation! I also ordered the lumber to cover the rough beams. They are going to be made from hemlock. I am picking the lumber up from the mill in the morning and taking it to a different mill that is going to build the U-shaped beam covers for us (something I could do in my shop, but they are so large at 12 feet that I thought it would be better to make them at the professional mill so they will be exact.)

The inside has already progressed beyond what you will see below. We no longer have a green room. The skim coat on the walls is nearly complete. It is amazing what a difference the clean smooth walls make! I also will picked up the lumber for the garage and will be starting the garage reframing soon. Our next big task is to try to pick out the tile for the bathroom shower and floor; and we hope to get that done this coming weekend.

More to come soon! Including our new windows!!!

Here is the post that I tried to put up before Christmas:

Things are really starting to take shape. Javier has been busy applying the skim coat of plaster to the living room walls to remove the textured look and give us a clean smooth coat. This week we also hung the drywall in the kitchen and we got our new doors for the interior over the weekend.

A few more days and then home for Christmas! When we return in January the new front door and windows will be arriving.

Here are a few pics of the progress.

This is the kitchen with the new ceiling and wall covering.

And here is a progression picture from the first time we saw the room to how it is today.

Here are the new doors installed. They are only up for the pics, tomorrow I am taking them down and storing them until the work is done so they don't get damaged.

And a few shots of the living room. Notice the fireplace alter space is now gone.

Merry Christmas! Stay tuned for more in 2009!
