Farkel West expansion project....

Hello to all! It has been a very busy few months since our last post, and there is some big news for Farkel West! Coming this spring is the first expansion of the Kawecki Family! We are 18 weeks in and are due on May 13. Here is our first photo of Kawecki Jr.!

Ok...kind of hard to see...that was at 7 weeks...here is something a little more recent. Here is Jr. at 13 weeks..
Baby was very active, stretching, making frog legs, arching its back, and even flipping over during the ultrasound. All indications so far point to a healthy boy or girl. In the third picture below, the baby turned toward the ultrasound (already mugging for the camera), with both hands next to his/her face, which made both Gregg and I gasp. I wish we had a video to share with all of you, the effect was much less scary than the picture!

Our next appointment is this week for the second trimester anatomical ultrasound, so watch for more pictures later this week!!
Hope all of you are well!

Love,

Almost two years...

Yes, it is true, we have owned the house for almost two years now. All along, the biggest task has been the planning and execution of the kitchen. It is now, finally, after all this time, nearly complete.

Here is a photographic timeline for you...

When we first bought the house, there was a small and narrow galley kitchen (a little outdated too)

After the first week at the house, the old kitchen was no more, but work remained to get ready for the new, including redoing the floor, rewiring, re plumbing, taking down a wall, moving a door...

And of course what planning would be complete without the cardboard kitchen?

The construction continued with new wiring, drywall, front door relocation, sanded and finished floors, and a drain pipe that was hopefully in the right place for the island (which we would not know until the cabinets came a year later.)

Then we moved in, and learned to work with the temporary kitchen as it evolved...

to the addition of temporary cabinets...

to the selection and planning of the real cabinets just two months ago after a year living in the temp space.
to the installation of the new cabinets and counters, and yes! the dishwasher!!

Note the red line on the wall and cabinets...laser level at work, everything dead on!

For the island, we created a curved side with an overhang for seating, and to make it stronger, I reinforced the sub-plywood with steel plates routered into the surface.

Finally the countertops arrived..

And so here we are, after all this time, our kitchen has arrived!!
